Incoloy 800 heat exchanger tubes exhibit impressive corrosion resistance, and their performance can be compared to other materials commonly used in similar applications. Compared to stainless steels, such as the popular 300 series (e.g., 304 and 316), Incoloy 800 demonstrates superior resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at high temperatures. That is primarily due to its higher nickel content and the addition of chromium, which forms a protective oxide layer on the surface, effectively preventing a corrosive attack.
Regarding corrosion resistance, Incoloy 800H demonstrates similar performance to Incoloy 800. The "H" designation in Incoloy 800H stands for "high carbon," which provides improved elevated-temperature properties and enhanced resistance to intergranular corrosion. That makes Incoloy 800H a preferred choice in applications where exposure to sensitizing conditions, such as prolonged exposure to high temperatures or certain chemical environments, is anticipated.
Compared to other nickel-based alloys, Incoloy 800HT exhibits similar or slightly lower corrosion resistance, depending on the specific environment. Continuous Casting

Tube sinking is a drawing technique that reduces the diameter of tubes. In this drawing technique, a tube is run through a die without the need of a mandrel. Good inner surface quality is not ensured when using a mandrel. The die angel determines the integrity of the outer surface. The die being used produces a uniform surface. A tube can be significantly smaller than it was originally. When cost is a factor, tube sinking is ideal.
